Problem Description:
After installing an update my laptop would no longer boot. It hung indefinitely at the HP splash logo. This is not the first time this problem has appear.
System Specifications:
- Hardware: HP Laptop 15-dw3xxx
- Architecture: x86-64
- Kernel: Linux 6.19.9-200.fc43.x86_64
- Firmware Version (Current): 2017
How I fixed it:
you can bypass the hang using a USB drive
- Power OFF the laptop
- Insert any USB drive into the laptop (it doesn’t even need to be a bootable Linux installer, just a recognized USB disk).
- Power on the laptop and immediately start tapping F10 (to enter BIOS)
The presence of the USB drive often “escapes” the hang at the HP logo, allowing you to enter the BIOS settings. - Once in the BIOS, navigate to Boot Options or Security.
- Set Secure Boot to “Disabled”.
- Save and Exit The laptop should now boot into Fedora normally.
Note:
If you don’t have a USB drive, you can also try a CMOS reset
