Firefox built-in translator does not work (rawhide kde f45)

March 11, 2026
I’m using Fedora Rawhide KDE (f45). Something strange is happening: Firefox (installed from the default Fedora repositories) no longer displays the built-in translator. I configured RPMfusion and I installed all the recommended multimedia codecs.

Then I tried downloading Firefox from the Mozilla website (in tar.bz2 format), I have unzipped the file into a folder (/home/myname/Firefox), and now Firefox has the fully functional built-in translator. How do you explain this strange behavior?

P.S.
Firefox 148.0.2 (language italian)

Presumably settings in the Fedora version defaults to having translations turned off, whereas the Mozilla version defaults to having them turned on.

It seems to be enabled by default in the Fedora-packaged Firefox on my Rawhide VM:

Also, when I (running in English) visit an Italian-language site, FF offers to translate from Italian to English.

So I don’t think that the Fedora packaging has done an intentional disabling of translation.

Fixed!
It was my mistake. I had inadvertently disabled the AI. Without it, the built-in translator wouldn’t work. Every now and then, I make avoidable mistakes. :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:
