Fingerprint scanner software crashes during enrollment

During enrolling a fingerprint I get an error message and this is in the log:

If I’m not mistaken this is the fingerprint hardware:

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 27c6:6594 Shenzhen Goodix Technology Co.,Ltd. Goodix USB2.0 MISC

Has the fp reader worked in some previous Linux installation?

https://linux-hardware.org/?id=usb:27c6-6594&page=1 doesn’t find a Linux driver.

I cannot say it is the first Gnu/Linux on the machine. I do have Windows 11 on it where it worked flawless.

The Linux Hardware Database (LHDB) linked above says it has worked on some Linux distros/hardware combinations, and https://fprint.freedesktop.org/supported-devices.html says it is supported.

Dual booting with a fingerprint reader can be tricky: https://community.frame.work/t/setting-up-fingerprint-scanner-when-dual-booting-windows-and-ubuntu/7863/5. Many vendors put effort into supporting Windows but ignore Linux, so support is left to system vendors and Linux users. You can try searching for documents related to the fingerprint reader on your computer make and model, check for a profile of your model in the LHDB, and post hardware details (output from running inxi -Fzxx in a terminal posted as pre-formatted web-searchable text). This may allow others with similar hardware to find this topic – “all Linux issues are trivial given enough eyeballs”!.

Anyway. I moved away from fingerprint on Fedora as I have to type my password to open the default keyring anyway.
Amazingly it still worked on the dual booted W11… :confetti_ball:
