VirusTotal and Comodo Antivirus detect the Trojan (TrojWare.Win32.Obfuscated.en@1ml6dk) in FedoraMediaWriter-win32-latest.exe from the official Fedora website at https://getfedora.org/fmw/FedoraMediaWriter-win32-latest.exe
This is most likely a false positive, Fedora is not a trojan or malware. If you want to be sure, download the iso yourself and flash using Balena Etcher.
Virustotal isn’t an antivirus by itslef, it just uses other antiviruses for scanning.
Fedora is certainly not, but it looks like FedoraMediaWriter may still contain a Trojan that infects Windows. This would have to be clarified as it doesn’t look good and in my case Comodo automatically blocks FedoraMediaWriter from starting.
Ps.
Nobody says VirusTotal is an antivirus
This is very unlikely, antiviruses can get false positives sometimes. And in case fedora servers were compromised, I doubt it would last long without someone noticing.
Anyways like I said before, if you don’t want to run the media writer, just download the ISO and use etcher.
The sentence made it sound like that, so I wanted to clarify.
It’s probably some old version, the suspected file in it is qtquickcontrols2basicstyleimplplugin.dll
from QT 6.3.1. New (5.0.4) release has that file in older version, which is not detected as threat by Comodo (and whole issue indeed can be a false positive).
Anyway, good catch, report issues related to FMW hede: Issues · FedoraQt/MediaWriter · GitHub
and old/unwanted version on getfedora.org here: https://pagure.io/fedora-websites/issues
If you are in windows i recommend you to use windows defender which is better far ahead of any antivirus available rtn
So my opinion is to just scan with that and trojan is not and i think it is a false positive.
