Hello. I am Koushik. My laptop is a Dell Latitude 3400. Works fine. But I could definitely have something better. I had been using Fedora KDE since April. A week ago I decided to switch to CachyOS because Fedora felt a bit slow for me. After switching to CachyOS I felt nervous. I have OCD. There is a lot of mental issues as well. I hate Arch. I keeps me insecure. During the 2 months of Fedora I never felt unsafe just thought it could be faster. I like Gnome’s aesthetics. I am currently using CachyOS Gnome. But today I decided to go back to Fedora and install the Cachy kernel in Fedora. But I can’t install Fedora Workstation (where GNOME is default)
The problem: After the Live Environment comes up the Fedora Welcome box pops up and when I click install fedora nothing happens. I waited for a good while. Nothing happened.
What to know:
I checked the ISO. Matches sha256
i used gnome disks restore and then also click the test iso and then run fedora option from grub
i then used fedora media writer and then test iso and then run fedora
nothing happens. some icons load. some icons don’t load. i can’t even open any apps from the live environment. i could open terminal though but i wouldn’t count that. i used ai. ai told me to give it the journalctl data and it said that my usb drive is disconnecting in the middle of things. but why would that be the case? i have been constantly writing and reading from it for the past couple of hours to try different things. this is the same drive i used a week before to install CachyOS. I am sure my drive is fine. ai suggested to used somelike usbcore.autosuspend=-1 from the grub boot menu and i did. it is the same. i used the terminal again and it is saying something along the lines of /dev/sda is not responding or it is dead or something. installing fedora kde was easy. actually due to my ocd i had to compulsively reinstall Fedora KDE 4-5 times in a single day. every happened flawlessly. the only flaw was me.
Help me out anyone.
I have two 64 GiB ADATA UV128 pendrives. they work fine and i am sure. one had fedora Workstation 44 1.7 iso on it. the other kubunto on it from back when i tried kubuntu.
i am not a linux pro but i have used many distributions. i only ever had problems with opensuse, Bazzite. everything else installed without a hitch. the problems were i didn’t like them. why can’t i install fedora Workstation? i currently have the CachyOS install installed. it feels kinda betraying to use it to download fedora.
i am losing my mind. someone help me please.
Should i install fedora ws 43 and then upgrade to 44? i wanna use gnome. if i had to use kde i would have stuck with fedora kde. this is so annoying. i even upgraded to fedora kde 44 before i deleted it and installed cachyos

I’m afraid that does sound like a USB drive that is failing. If it’s only starting to fail after a bit of use (i.e. after it starts to warm up) then you might get the installer to load if you skip the media check at boot - but I don’t think it’s wise to use a suspect USB drive to start the install. If it starts to fail after you start the install then you’ll either be stuck with a part-installed system or end up with corrupt data in the install.
Maybe try writing the Fedora installer to the second pendrive and try that one?

I am afraid it didn’t sound like my USB drive that is failing. I clearly wrote that I know my USB is fine because I used it extensively a few days prior. I have been able to successfully install Fedora Workstation 43 using Ventoy 1.1.12. Your response was neither helpful nor assuring. It was discouraging and dismissive. You didn’t properly read my post.
I used a flash drive testing tool to test my USB pendrive. It took 2 hours to completely write and read from the drive and my drive was fine. The problem is with the Fedora Workstation 44 (1.7) ISO. When I downloaded the Fedora Workstation 43 1.6 ISO and used Ventoy 1.1.12 to boot into it using the Ventoy normal mode everything went buttery smooth. No hitches. I was able to install Fedora in under 15 minutes. The Fedora Workstation 44 (1.7) ISO is buggy. Relay this message if you can.
I think the forum and its users are more concerned with appearance than actually providing a solution. No one is going to write a query is the smoothest possible way. Anyhow, I will be never be posting here again. I searched through the entire forum and every one that had the same problem as me didn’t get a solution. It was filled with generic advice or cautions like the one you gave.
I fixed my problem. I used Fedora 43. Now, I am going to upgrade to 44. Hopefully nothing breaks.
