Fedora Workstation 44 & 43 ISO images give bash syntax errors when loading grub off media

Hi all,

Was trying to install the Fedora 44 image on my Chuwi Minibook N150 via a USB image, and when the grub menu loaded off the drive, it displayed several bash syntax error messages. Tried again with the 43 image, and it was the same. Ubuntu 26.04 LTS didn’t have these issues.

Welcome to the forum!

Could you show the specific messages please, so we can better understand how to troubleshoot this?

Hi,

The best I can do is the attached photo

  "I and the public know
  what all schoolchildren learn
Those to whom evil is done
Do evil in return" W.H. Auden, "September 1, 1939"

Is there another OS installed on the system? Is the vendor BIOS up to date?

https://taoofmac.com/space/reviews/2025/05/15/2230 used F42 on a similar model. You could try installing F42 and upgrading to F44, or the F44 network installer spin which would give you a fully updated F44 Workstation.

There’s Windows 11 that it came pre-installed with. At the time I lodged the complaint, I discovered I had to turn off BitLocker so I could shrink the partition, Having done that, I was able to install Ubuntu 26.04 on the box. I’ll try wiping that install tonight and put Fedora on it - this time it passed the media check.
