Fedora won't sleep as of a few hours ago, need help

Pressing “sleep” will black the screen, but about five seconds later it wakes to the lock screen. I have already tried disabling things via /etc/acpi/wakeup.

Here’s the log line

Nov 26 22:03:24 fedora NetworkManager[1479]: <info> [numbers] manager: sleep: wake requested (sleeping: yes enabled: yes)

This in addition to audio not working is quite frustrating.

Sleep source doesn’t matter: hotkey, application launcher, sleep from lock screen, power button, etc. All source will instantly wake. It will even instant wake if I sleep from the lock screen on initial boot.

Fedora 43, Kernel 6.17.8. All packages up-to-date

The processor is Lunar Lake

Can you boot from the previous kernel and see if that resolved some of your issues?

Thanks.

6.17.7 fixes the audio issues. The Arch forums say that the fix for audio will be in 6.18.

The insability to sleep persists across 6.17.6 - 6.17.8. It started after an update from software center so I don’t think it’s the kernel itself.

I am guessing it’s one of these packages because dnf4 history info

Tried a few things this morning to no success sadly

  • Airplane mode
  • Disabling networkmanager wake on lan

This seems related to both issues, maybe. Audio device has issues when I suspend

cs42l43-codec cs42l43-codec: Failed to resume for tip work: -13

This appears to be my issue. Trying to fix.

fedora kernel: cs42l43 <some-long-id>: Failed to read IRQ status: -16

I’ve noticed that the keyboard backlight never turns off when I suspend manually, so I am thinking that might be the suspect.

I figured it out! The final hint was I noticed that I saw “failed to unlock” whenever the instant wake happened, which indicated my keyboard was doing something wonky. That suspicion proved correct, the culprit was Lenovo’s Fool proof FN Ctrl feature. I disabled that and my problem went away.

TL;DR: Disable Fool proof Fn Ctrl

Help finding this for future travelers (search terms I used when researching this):

  • Lenovo Yoga 9i instant wake Fedora linux.
  • Lenovo Yoga 9i suspend bounce fedora linux
  • Failed to read IRQ status: -16

Oh the solution to the audio bug that I was complainiing about is to just use 6.17.7, unless you’re in the future, then you’re probably on >=6.18 where the issue was fixed.

Seems I jumped the gun. This issue still sporadically occurs. I can not find a bios setting that fully fixes it. It seems to have gone away in 6.17.9, but audio still doesn’t work there. If anyone has any ideas, I am all ears.

Another potentially relevant symptom, the screen shuts off, but the keyboard backlight never does.
