Fedora won't install

I tried to install fedora to my windows with dual Boot… I did everything necessary but when I try to install fedora… It says I have 3.3mib… due to this reason installation won’t go through… But I already partitioned my windows system and allocated 128gig for it… But somehow fedora can’t locate the partition in other to use it for installation, instead it detects 3.3mib… which I don’t know how it found it… I need some help please

That’s what I see that I have 3.3mib

If by that you created a 128 gig partition for you linux installation. You should then remove that partition again, because the Fedora install procedure will only use disk space not already assigned to a partition.

But I have huge space from where I partitioned it from… So why is it not using the free space in the SSD since it won’t use the partition?

Because there are only 3 meg free space after all the partitions have been created.

I deleted the partition it still says 3.3mib , I clicked on the space for storage, noticed it choose a space of 1mib and theirs no how I can change it… Any ideas please?

You could try cancelling the installation, logging back into the live session, open the Disks utility and make sure the space you would like to use for Fedora is unformatted continuous, unallocated free space (and not some formatted partition with empty space).

Am a beginner with Linux haven’t used it much only on VM… so this terms might be new to me… If you can break it down for me will be good thanks

I understand that from within the Windows OS you have created a partition to be used for Fedora. How did you partition it? Basically there shouldn’t be any partitioned file system for this purpose, but rather unallocated space.

If the above is true, what you could do is the following:

  • cancel the installation
  • boot into your live USB (the one you’re using for the Fedora installation)
  • when the graphical desktop is displayed, don’t start the installation yet
  • Press the Activities button (the dash-dot button in the top left corner)
  • Start typing Disks
  • Open the Disks utility
  • Select your 1TB disk
  • Send a screenshot of the way the disk is partitioned.

The above works if you have chosen Fedora Workstation Live USB. If it is a different Fedora edition/spin, post this info back here.

You can easily also from within the installation media open a terminal window and run the command sudo fdisk -l which will display all the attached disks and their partitions defined.

Your image shows this

which says the drive is nvme0n1 of 1TB size and there is only 3.3 MB that is not already allocated to a partition.

You must have unallocated space so if you created a partition within windows to use for the installation then, as stated above, you must boot back into windows and remove the partition that it seems you may have created, leaving that space unallocated.

Once the space is no longer designated as a partition then fedora should be able to install into that space.

Thanks everyone for the help… I just fixed it
