I’m tired of entering password every time I boot my laptop, so I’d like to Fedora team or someone else make a driver for fingerprint. It will be very usefull and a faster way to log in into the system. Thank`s!
Open source development happens for two main reasons a volunteer does the work in their spare time for the personal reasons. Someone is paid to do the work.
There is no such thing as a Fedora team of people tasked or funded to take on such requests as your.
Does the hardware manufacturer not provide any drivers, especially for Linux? Most of them do provide something and we can usually find a way of making it work on a Fedora system.
As Barry noted, the Fedora community consists mainly of volunteers who all work on things they need or are interested in. Few of us get paid to work on Fedora tasks. For this sort of thing, one also needs access to the hardware, which requires someone to pay for it. So, it’s not a trivial undertaking, unfortunately.
As others mentioned, Fedora distributes packages but does not develop them. Many fingerprint readers are “security theater”, so developers with expertise in this area may prefer something like https://www.yubico.com/products/yubikey-bio-series/ over random laptop readers.
