i was checking some programs i am not using, removing things on discover
discover found 3 packages to update, two were libraries, nothing uncommon
the third one is 500 mbs package called fedora 44 flatpak with a description that says this
The Fedora Platform is a runtime for Flatpak applications. It contains common libraries that are shared between desktop applications, including GTK 3, GStreamer, Qt 5, Mesa, SDL2, and many others.
i am on f45 beta, is this package normal on f45? i have not installed it yet
For flatpak, you do not run “dnf”. So it should be:
flatpak update
Flatpak is its own thing, which is containerized so it doesn’t use system packages. You use dnf to update system packages. So to sum up:
sudo dnf update --refresh
is for system packages. Whereas:
flatpak update
is for flatpak applications. Notice how you do not need sudo for flatpak updates, because they are isolated so they do not need escalated priviledges. I hope this clears things up.
