I am experiencing a networking issue on my Fedora system where the internet connection sometimes stops working after the computer resumes from suspend. The Wi-Fi appears to remain connected, but websites stop loading and applications cannot reach external servers. The issue does not happen every time, and restarting the network connection sometimes restores access temporarily.
I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting to the Wi-Fi network, but the problem occasionally returns after another suspend and resume cycle. Other devices connected to the same router continue working normally, so I suspect the issue may be related to Fedora’s network management or the wireless driver rather than the router itself. I am unable to open this website as well. I would like to identify what happens when the connection becomes unresponsive instead of repeatedly restarting services.
Has anyone encountered similar networking problems on Fedora after resuming from suspend? Which logs or diagnostic commands would help determine whether NetworkManager, the wireless driver, or the system’s power-management settings are responsible? Any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated.
There should be details in the journal, but it can take some effort to filter out the mass of irrelevant detail. It is worth looking at some recent topics for journalctl examples. Post the output from running inxi -ezxx in a terminal (as web-discoverable pre-formatted text) so others with similar hardware can help.
The next time it happens, test the route and DNS separately before you restart anything:
ping -c 3 1.1.1.1
ping -c 3 fedoraproject.org
If the first ping gets replies and the second shows “Temporary failure in name resolution”, the link is up and DNS is failing after resume. Run resolvectl status and check which DNS servers are listed under the Wi-Fi interface.
If both pings fail, run ip route and look for a missing default via line.
Then pull the messages from that resume while the problem is still there:
