Fedora KDE on a 2018 Intel MacBook Pro: good idea or headache?

Hello everyone,
I have a question: I own an Intel MacBook Pro, the 15-inch 2018 model (with Touch Bar and webcam).

With the latest updates, it’s getting slower and slower.
I would like to install Fedora on it, preferably with KDE Plasma.

Does anyone have feedback or experience with this setup?

Thank you in advance.

Hello I had a MacBook (the last white macbook) from 2010-2011, Fedora coped very well and without any problems

Cool, do you have tips?

ÌAn excellent choice in such a configuration there should be no problems, my experience is a white macbook with 2010 fedora very smoothly

Fedora runs pretty well on older MBP’s. However, a 2018 MBP might already have a T2 chip, in which case you’ll have some drivers missing. Best to try Fedora with a Live ISO first.

Also have a look at the T2Linux project.

You should definitely look at the T2Linux project first (make sure to read the docs about wifi). My experience was that you can’t get anywhere with the regular fedora live iso if it has a T2 chip.

But, after all that, I have a macbook air 2018 that now runs fedora quite nicely.

Ok perfect, that’s work, I installed fedora, Touchbar is ok, beautiful desktop, okai too
problems: wifi doesn’t work, during the installation process in the live cd it works, but when I use my session, no :grimacing:

I do not understand the process for install wifi, if someone helps me, is appreciatte.

Other thing, sometimes during the bootloading I saw some artefact, I have to mac with dual gpu, I need to install something?

Thank you all, impossible is not Linux.

PS : I used t2 version recommanded on t2 webiste

I only have experience with installing Fedora on older Intel Macs, without T2 security chip.

Given that T2Linux is an external project, not related to Fedora, the chances are small that you’ll receive the expected support here (you could try opening a separate topic with the exact issue you’d like to fix though).

However, on T2Linux’s website there are some guides, also related to WiFi, that might be useful. On their website you’ll also find links to their channels.
