Fedora kde 43 login screen on active session

I’m very new to fedora and linux in general, so I do not know where and what logs are needed here. So here I will just outline the problem.

If I’m not mistaken this is the same problem another user had on fedora 41 in this forums: Fedora 41 KDE after login the tty changes. Their fix (updating) did not work.

Basically, I login, then couple minutes pass and i get another login screen, after i login a second time, the desktop freezes and i can’t do anything. I learned from trial and error that I can just switch to my first active session via ctrl+alt+f2 (I’m still mostly unaware how and why this works). Issue appears after first shut down of the system after update. (So when I update, first time after all the installations everything works fine, but the second time and onwards it starts happening).

Hi,

I’m also experiencing the same issue after doing a fresh install of Fedora KDE Plasma 43.

In my case, the system logs in normally, but after a few minutes the login screen appears again on top of the active session.

When I try to log in again, it freezes right after I press Enter on the password field.

Even if I press Ctrl+Alt+F2, the problem continues: it goes back to the state as if I hadn’t entered the password yet (the login screen resets). I’m not able to properly switch to a TTY to recover the session.

This is a clean installation (not an upgrade).
Kernel version: 6.17.1-300.fc43.x86_64

Happy to provide diagnostic information as necessary to get this resolved.

I am using 6.18.9-200.fc43.x86_64, so I think you better do some updates and then try again.

This is the same problem as Fedora 43 Issue; Kernel boot delay followed by kick back to login, crashes - #22 by lazare

I suggested to look at the display-manager (sddm?) logs:
