Mobility SIG consists of just a few people who does it on their free-time for free. If you have free time and interest to make Fedora better on mobile phones then please feel free to join, we could use some more hands.
Please join the SIG and help out—these are not trivial projects to undertake, and especially not when one is doing them on the side. These people are very serious—but they have other things that also require their time (jobs, families, lives). So, if you are serious and have the time, please join them and help them out.
Generally, FOSS communities aren’t really fans of people turning up to say “hey, this is a great idea, you should do this”. It assumes they haven’t thought of it already to begin with—and it assumes that the communities arent “serious” about it. These are both quite unfair assumptions to make. FOSS communities prefer people that turn up and go “how can I help with this cool idea that we share?”
well .. . i don’t know .. . but yes that was the idea .. .to get some enthusiastic people , but thank you for confirming that No one is intrested .. and justifying that .. people have jobs family and life .. and all this is just a hobbyist thing ..
looks like i need to tread alone ..
Trival or Significant i don’t know and don’t care ..
i already see a fone .. Fedora Fone .. its just about time .. thats all
Please stop mischaracterizing the responses you’ve received. You are engaging in several bad-faith behaviors:
Using a strawman argument: Explaining that community volunteers balance contributions with their lives does not mean “no one is interested” or that this is “just a hobbyist thing”.
Playing the martyr: Declaring that you must “tread alone” makes no sense when multiple people have pointed you to an active SIG (the wiki page has a link to the matrix channel too).
Dismissing technical realities: Stating “trivial or significant i dont know and dont care” is a dismissal of the efforts required to create/deliver these projects, especially if you “don’t know”.
Substituting execution realities with dreams: Having a vision/dream does not replace the enormous amount of labour required to build, test, and maintain an operating system.
Before preaching visions or writing off the community, would you please consider spending time to understand the reality of how open-source software is built—and how much work people are already volunteering to do?
I hope you can make it happen, but please do better with your communication.
There is only so much you can do unless you get paid.
But @ankursinha has some good points. The SIG has enthusiastic people and if you have PinePhone or PinePhone Pro you can already run Fedora on them, refer to Mobility/PinePhone and PinePhone Installation Instructions for instructions. If I recall correctly there has been on some work to get Fedora running on FairPhone 5. If you’re into atomic, then Pocketblue has been working on to get Fedora Atomic on OnePlus 6(T).
So feel free to stop by at the Matrix channel and read the wiki which was already linked here. Check if you can help with something; it does not necessarily need to be something Fedora specific, it could something from the stack, check Phosh or some of its many related components for example.
