Fedora Design Team Meeting (2025-12-08): Sticker concepts, FOSDEM 2026 prep, and Forgejo migration

Hello Fedora community! This is a summary of the weekly meeting for the Fedora Design Team, co-chaired by @madelinepeck and @ekidney. The Design Team is responsible for the user experience (UX) design, artwork, and visual branding of the Fedora Project. We meet weekly to discuss ongoing design requests, event swag, and visual strategy for the project.

Topics discussed:

  • Fedora <3 Sticker Designs: Brainstorming new sticker concepts involving the Fedora logo and a heart, exploring modular designs that allow users to place their own stickers next to the heart.

  • FOSDEM 2026 Preparations: Planning for a swag survey and a rotating slideshow for the Fedora stand at FOSDEM.

  • Forgejo Migration: Initial brainstorming for migrating the team’s workflow to the new Fedora Forgejo instance.

  • New Contributor Guidance: Discussing the workflow for a contributor interested in improving the Fedora Docs website theme.

  • End of Year Updates: Notices about availability as the holiday season approaches.

Note: AI (Google Gemini) was used to summarize the HTML log of the public meeting. I reviewed and corrected the AI-generated output before posting.

#118 Fedora <3 (blank) sticker

Link: Issue #118

The team discussed a new sticker concept featuring the Fedora logo and a heart.

  • Concept: @ekidney proposed a design with just the “Fedora” logo and a “heart” next to it. This design is intended to be modular, allowing anyone to place any sticker (hex or otherwise) next to the heart.

  • Visual Cues: @jflory7 raised a question about whether blank space next to the heart would be sufficient, or if a specific visual cue (like an empty shape) is needed to indicate that something should be placed there.

  • Testing: @madelinepeck suggested creating designs for both concepts (blank space vs. visual cue) to trial them and see which is more effective.

  • Strategy: @jflory7 suggested trialing these in small quantities initially (possibly at FOSDEM) to gauge popularity before committing to a bulk order for general event supplies.

FOSDEM 2026 Planning

In relation to the sticker discussion, the team also touched upon preparations for FOSDEM 2026.

  • Swag Survey: The team discussed creating a swag survey for the FOSDEM 2026 stand slideshow. This idea is inspired by a similar initiative by @smeragoel at DevConf CZ 2024, aiming to gather feedback on current swag and ideas for future items (like Flock 2026).

  • Action Item: @ekidney will create a new Design Team Request ticket under the FOSDEM 2026 epic to cover two tasks:

  1. Creating the rotating slideshow for the Fedora stand.

  2. Creating the swag survey for feedback and ideation.

#124: Forgejo migration plan brainstorm

Links:

The team began discussing the migration of their workflow to the new Fedora Forgejo instance.

  • Goal: The immediate step is to start brainstorming the migration plan within the ticket, including ideas on how to set up the team’s presence on the new platform.

Welcoming @yukih (Docs Website)

The team discussed the best workflow for a contributor interested in working on the docs.fedoraproject.org website.

  • Proposal: @yukih expressed interest in working on the documentation website and collaborating with the Design Team.

  • Workflow: The suggested approach is for @yukih to first work with the docs-team to understand the Antora theme and get initial feedback. Once the technical foundation is understood, they should open a ticket with the Design Team to receive specific UI/UX feedback and collaborate with designers on the visual improvements.

  • End of Year Availability: The team noted that there are only a few weeks of working time left in the year. Many members will be on holiday after December 22, 2025, so activity is expected to slow down significantly in the second half of December.
