Hi Fedora folks
Here is the summary from today’s Fedora Community Operations (CommOps) meeting. We are shifting gears into “Event Season” and piloting some new infrastructure for 2026.
The Community Operations (CommOps) team provides tools, resources, and utilities for the different sub-projects of Fedora to improve effective communication and collaboration. Due to the lack of a formally-triaged agenda and lower quorum, today’s meeting was a casual year-end wrap-up focused on sharing news and announcements before the holidays.
Note: AI (Google Gemini) was used to summarize the transcript of the public video meeting. I reviewed and corrected the AI-generated output before posting.
Key Updates & Logistics
1. FOSDEM & CentOS Connect — Brussels, Belgium
The team is finalizing logistics for our presence in Brussels next week.
- Metrics Workshop: Instead of a formal session, we will be joining a “Community Health & Metrics” topic table during the Friday Lunch at CentOS Connect. If you care about how we measure open source success, join us there!
2. SCaLE 23x — Pasadena, California, USA
- Big News: Fedora and CentOS have secured a Half-Day Track on Friday at SCaLE 23x!
- What this means: We have a dedicated room to showcase upstream innovation. The exact schedule is TBD, but we are looking for help to promote this once the agenda is live.
Strategic Pilots
3. Introducing “Quests” (Concept Pilot)
We are exploring a new way to bridge the gap between “Good First Issues” and “Maintainer” status.
- The Concept: “Quests” are mid-sized, multiplayer projects (1-3 months) designed for contributors who want to tackle something bigger than a bug fix but aren’t ready to own a SIG.
- Status: We are prototyping this workflow now. Stay tuned for a pilot launch soon.
4. Forgejo Piloting
The migration to our new Git forge is moving forward.
- Action for Contributors: Log in now to the public instance at https://forge.fedoraproject.org using your FAS ID.
- Why log in? We need to seed the user database and test permissions. Please log in once to ensure your account is active.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, February 3 @ 10:00 – 11:00 EST (Matrix)
See the CommOps Fedora Calendar for details.
