Fedora Budgie 41 : changing Budgie settings breaks the system

Hello everyone,

I’ve recently made the switch to Fedora, and I’ve chosen the Budgie version. Unfortunately, it seems I have a peculiar issue. If I make certain changes in the Budgie settings, the next time I boot a session, the OS crashes, and I’m thrown back to the login screen.

My configuration :
AMD Ryzen 3 3200
16gb of RAM
Integrated graphics Vega 8

Which changes have I made?
I can’t pinpoint exactly what makes the system crash, but it seems that it has to do with me tweaking the bottom panel. I’ve made the following changes :

  • Removing the start button
  • Moving the clock to the centre
  • Adding date to the clock
  • Adding Show desktop button
  • Adding keyboard layout button (I use 2 layouts)
  • Removing Status indicator

What happens when I log in?
When I log in, I sometimes see the session starting for a couple of seconds. Then when the bottom panel appears, some icons do not. A second later, I get the “Oh no! Something has gone wrong!” screen, and I get the option of going back to the login screen.

I’ve reinstalled the system a dozen times, and everything works until I tweak things in the Budgie settings. I’ve tried to narrow down to which setting causes the crash, and it seems to be the bottom panel, but I can’t find the exact action that causes the crash.

What can I do to prevent the crashes? Which logs can I generate to give me more details about these crashes?

Thanks in advance,

Dan
