Fedora automatically turn screen off even just not using the mouse (but using a controller and so on)

hello, seems like, from a month or so fedora automatically turns the screen off after 5 minutes of inactivity (which is right and what i set)

problem is now even if i’m playing something with a controller or watching a movie, if i’m not using a kb or a mouse, screen turns off, and it’s very very tedious

say i’m playing a game with a controller, on steam, and after 5 minutes is launched screen turns off, or i start a movie and after 5 minutes screen is off, unless of course i use kb or mouse

any help?what can i do to prevent this?

for the record i’m on fedora workstation 41…

That is very annoying.

So you want to keep your screen time-out at 5 mins, but make it so using a controller or watching a movie prevents the screen turning off?

It sounds like a bug to me, I would report it on Bugzillla.

Which app(s) are you using to watch movies?

using showtime but it’s irrelevant, tried with clapper also

tauon also has a function to prevent turning the screen off when listening to music, but it’s not working either, so i suppose it’s irrelevant

exactly, everything was working fine till one or two months ago, i don’t exactly recall when it started but not so long ago…

As I understand there is work going on to add game controllers to tge list of devices that prevent screens turning off. But it is not present in current builds.

nice to know, but the question is, why it was working before?

Maybe some power setting changed?
I guess you checked the power settings are as you need them to be?

yeah, turn off the screen on in 5 minutes, suspend is off, also, never touched these settings apart for turning suspend and lock screen off

This that 5 min setting am I right to assume that 5 mins into playing a game controller only the screen turns off?

Given the lack of game controller activity monitoring I would expect that to be what happens.

You could use man systemd-inhibit command when starting a game. Then sleep will not happen until you quit the game. If you play via steam then I asume you could change teh way steam launches to use systemd-inhibit steam.

Did you by any chance upgrade to F41 around the time it stopped working? Fedora replaced power-profiles-daemon with tuned with the F41 release.

sorry i don’t remember, i updated just some days ago f41 was released so no i don’t think so…
