Fedora ai-ml-sig meeting: 2026-09-24

Summary of Meeting Topics and Discussion

Summary is courtesy of Bot Aurélien, some clarifications added where needed

AI/ML SIG Docs Site Launch

  • The new official documentation site for the AI/ML SIG is now live.
  • The URL path is currently /ai/, but the group agreed it should be /ai-ml/ to align with the SIG’s name.

Wiki to Docs Migration

  • A proposal was made to migrate content from the SIG’s Fedora Wiki page to the new official docs site.
  • The move is favored because the docs site has better discoverability and SEO, and the wiki is a frequent target for spammers.
  • A final decision on the migration is deferred until Tom Rix (trix), the primary wiki contributor, can provide his input.
  • There was a discussion on the contribution workflow for the new docs site. The consensus is to start with a trust-based model, allowing direct commits for small changes and using pull requests for larger ones, rather than enforcing a PR-only workflow immediately.

ROCm 10.0 Update

  • Upstream ROCm 10.0 has been released with a new time-based release schedule and consolidated repositories.
  • Due to build time-out limits in Koji, the packages will remain as separate components in Fedora.
  • Tom Rix is actively working on packaging ROCm 10.0 for Rawhide.

Goals for Fedora 46

  • A preliminary discussion was held on the SIG’s focus for the F46 release cycle.
  • Ideas included packaging more user-facing CLI tools to make AI more accessible.
  • A key proposal is to formally “debut” the Fedora Skills Library, with clear documentation, contribution guides, and a CI/review process.
  • The group acknowledged ongoing packaging challenges in the AI space, such as complex dependencies (e.g., PyTorch, Node.js) and a culture of vendoring that is at odds with traditional packaging guidelines.

Action Items

  • jflory7: Change the SIG docs component name in Antora and create a PR for an infrastructure proxy redirect rule from /ai/ to /ai-ml/.
  • jflory7: Open a new ticket to outline a detailed plan for migrating content from the Fedora Wiki to the new docs site. This will be used to facilitate a decision with Tom Rix.
