PyTorch 2.13
- Work is stalled on the PyTorch 2.13 update for Fedora 45 and Rawhide because packager energy has been diverted to handle a recent libstdc++ update has made ROCm not buildable
ROCm 10.0 Planning:
- ROCm 10.0 has been publicly released, which was previously referred to as ROCm 8.x. This is being treated as a major version change with the potential for breaking ABI changes.
- Packaging for ROCm 10.0 is being done in the rocm-packagers-sig/preview COPR to allow for testing and to quantify the scope of the changes.
- ROCm 10 will not be in F45, rawhide updates will happen once initial testing has been done on the COPR builds
- Progress on ABI checking is slowed because libabigail is crashing on the ROCm debuginfo packages.
Feasibility of Shipping AI Models in Fedora:
- A discussion was held about the feasibility of shipping open models like NVIDIA’s Nemotron 3 or AMD’s Instella-Long in Fedora.
- Challenges include:
- newer and/or non-standard open source licenses (NVIDIA’s custom license and the new openMDW license)
- the massive hardware requirements to train models from source
- Fedora policies around shipping binaries and whether or not pre-trained weights need to be treated as something special
- Concerns were raised about build/train models from scratch within Fedora’s Koji infrastructure due to hardware and build time limitations.
