Fedora ai-ml-sig meeting: 2026-06-04

Summary of Meeting Topics and Discussion

Summary is courtesy of Bot Aurélien

Packaging Updates:

  • ollama has been updated to version 2.23.4 in Rawhide.
  • Progress has been made on packaging hermes, with python-fire now available as a dependency.
  • The pi-coding-agent and emacs-agent-shell packages are waiting for review in Bugzilla.
  • There was a call for volunteers to help with package reviews as the number of AI-related packages is increasing.

Outreachy Internship Project:

  • The SIG approved the creation of a new repository, editorial-guide-ramalama, under the ai-ml forge namespace.
  • This repository will host a proof-of-concept project from an Outreachy intern focused on editorial guidelines.

Skills Library Refactor:

  • A pull request to refactor the Skills Library is open and needs reviewers.
  • The SIG agreed to make a decision on this pull request by the next meeting on June 18.

ONNX Runtime Update:

  • Work has started to update onnxruntime to version 1.26.0, which was previously blocked by an older version of protobuf.
  • The update is being tested in a COPR repository (copr://dherrera/onnx-devel).
  • The onnxruntime-rocm subpackage may be removed, with its functionality integrated into the main package, but this is still under investigation.

AI Developer Desktop Initiative:

  • The group revisited the discussion about the “Fedora AI Developer Desktop” initiative.
  • There was a consensus that the AI/ML SIG should serve as a venue for discussing new AI-related ideas before they are proposed more broadly to ensure stakeholder alignment.
  • The need for better “Getting Involved” documentation for the SIG was highlighted to make it easier for new contributors and initiatives to engage with the group.

Action Items

  • @cybette: Create the editorial-guide-ramalama repository for the Outreachy project.
  • @jflory7 & @cybette: Create a draft of a “Getting Involved” page for the AI/ML SIG section on the Fedora Docs site before the next meeting.
