Here are the meeting minutes from the AI/ML SIG meeting on 2026-05-21, courtesy of Bot Aurélien
Fedora Contributor Skills Library:
- A proposal was made to create a central repository for AI “skills” to help Fedora contributors.
- The group agreed to use a mono-repo for easier discovery and installation, repurposing the
skill-meeting-secretaryrepository into a newskills-library. - A workaround for Fedora’s anti-bot protection when using agents is to use the Forgejo API with a token, and this should be documented.
Package Updates:
- The text-to-speech package
python-piper-ttsis now available, with a focus on improving accessibility. The training side is being worked on. ollamahas been updated andopenclawhas been added. A review is requested for thepi-coding-agentpackage.- There’s an ongoing effort to make various text editors (like Emacs, Vim, and potentially nano) LLM-aware.
- Peter Robinson is working on
executorchand a GStreamer ML framework to support NPUs in Fedora.
AI/ML SIG’s Role as a Stakeholder:
- The group discussed the recent “Fedora AI Developer Desktop” proposal, noting that it was not presented well to key stakeholders.
- There is a strong consensus that the SIG should be a venue for discussing new AI-related ideas before they are made public.
- The SIG should be a formal stakeholder in the AI Developer Desktop work, and this will be discussed with the proposal author in a future meeting.
- The SIG’s documentation needs improvement. A plan to migrate relevant content from the Wiki to the official Fedora Docs site will be discussed at the next meeting.
AI on the Edge:
- Peter Robinson is working on
Executorchand a GStreamer ML stack for AI on edge devices, targeting a Fedora 45 feature. - This work, sponsored by Arm, aims to create a fully open NPU stack for use cases like HomeAssistant.
Action Items
- @cverna: Open a PR on the
ai-ml/skills-libraryrepo to reorganize it as a general library of skills for Fedora contributors by 2026-05-28. - @jflory7 & @cybette: Create a draft of a “Getting Involved” page for the AI/ML SIG section on the Fedora Docs site before the next meeting.
- AI/ML SIG: Revisit the topic of separating content between the Fedora Docs site and the Wiki in the next meeting.
