Fedora ai-ml-sig meeting: 2026-04-23

I haven’t been posting meeting announcements in discourse because it seemed like noise since participants seemed to be already talking in the SIG matrix room. If there is a desire to see those meeting announcements here, I can start doing that again.

Here are the meeting minutes from the AI/ML SIG meeting on 2026-05-07, courtesy of Bot Aurélien:

ollama 0.20.7 Update

  • The ollama package has been updated to version 0.20.7.
  • Work is in progress to package agentic tools that use ollama, specifically pi-coding-agent and openclaw.
  • The ollama update is reported to be working well on aarch64 with Vulkan support.

New Package Reviews

  • Two new NodeJS-based packages are in need of review:
  • It was suggested to review pi first, as it is a dependency for openclaw.
  • trix will investigate packaging opencode, which is currently blocked by the bun build tool dependency.

python-tokenizers for F42/F43

  • There is a user request to make python-tokenizers available on Fedora 42 and 43.
  • This is blocked by the need to backport rust pyo3 dependencies to those releases.
  • Fedora 42 will be End-of-Life on 2026-05-13, limiting the time to push updates to stable.

rust/python-tokenizers 0.7.0 Update

  • An update to version 0.7.0 for rust/python-tokenizers is planned for Rawhide.
  • xanderlent, the maintainer of the Python part, is seeking advice on how to best coordinate with the maintainer of the Rust part.
  • Suggestions included trying email/RHBZ, asking the Rust SIG for help, or offering to become a co-maintainer.

Outreachy Project Repository

  • The SIG approved the creation of a new repository, packaging-guide-ramalama, under the ai-ml group on forge.fedoraproject.org.
  • This repository will house the work for this year’s Outreachy intern project, which focuses on improving RPM packaging using RamaLama RAG.

Next Meeting Planning

  • tflink will be unavailable for the next meeting on 2026-05-21.
  • Carol Chen (cybette) volunteered to run the next meeting.

Action Items

  • @cybette: Create the packaging-guide-ramalama repository on forge.fedoraproject.org

Hey, pyo3 maintainer here. I’m not sure I understand what is blocking here, the same pyo3 version(s) are available across all branches of Fedora, EPEL10, and EPEL9.

@xanderlent do you have the answers to these questions?

Hi @decathorpe, thanks for looking into this.

I think it is just the rust-pyo3-async-runtimes{,-macros} packages. The package owner, @gordonmessmer has already started builds which are waiting on the s390x queues.

Thanks, that makes sense then. I intentionally didn’t touch those because I knew that they were waiting for / blocked by a pending tokenizers update.

@tflink please change the meeting date in the title to 2026-05-07 (I got confused for a hot second  ) Thanks!
