Hi folks, this discussion has ballooned to almost 250 replies and the conversation is ranging in several different directions. For this reason, I am closing this topic. However, just because this topic is closed does not mean the conversation ends here.
If you want to continue the original discussion from this topic, there are two places you can do so.
First, on the topic of the actual Initiative proposal, see the new topic below for discussion about the actual work being proposed and figuring out a path forward that leaves room for technical work to happen, while also not sacrificing our values and ethics. Since the Council vote and the various circumstances that led to the LWN write-up, I am personally seeing steady progress on building something in the right direction, in a community-centered way. So, bring us your feedback in the below topic on how to do this the right way that allows us to still be ahead on Features and First but also does not sacrifice our values on Freedom and Friends. Take a look at the edits incorporated since the first draft shared here.
Second, I understand many people were upset and disheartened by the Fedora Council decision (which was ultimately vetoed in its form two weeks ago). Also, I realize I made ruffled many feathers with my vote. I was asked to provide more context to why I originally voted in favor of the Initiative and later changed my vote. I will do that in the below topic. If you have feedback on Fedora governance and the overall process followed to arrive at a decision, please direct your feedback there.
Additionally, if you have concerns, comments, or questions that do not fit into either of the two above topics, you can always create a new one and tag the post with council if you want Fedora Council input.
A lot of the discussion in this specific topic was rough. I think we are doing a better job of making sure that community feedback is incorporated where possible and addressed. Please join us for productive follow-up discussion in either of the two linked topics above.
