-For the revised initiative, in addition to showing full compliance with Fedora rules/policies, clearly state this project as ‘remix’. Please explain fully the merits of the desired outcomes for the initiative.
-When it comes to Ai use cases I think more people agree on two in particular: as an additional code reviewing step and with human oversight to find and fix bugs and vulnerabilities.
-For instance, using AI tool ‘X’ on platform ‘Y’ allowed the discovery of bugs and vulnerabilities that currently Fedora as platform does not support, which may make it more difficult for the project to keep up in the current security environment.
-Here is one example of how firefox is currently using Ai to find problems and deal with them earlier in the process:
-Now of course everyone would much prefer having open source and local ai models that help do these things, so it is also imperative that the Fedora AI sig be consulted with this initiative in mind: #ai-ml-sig topics
-Other Open Source Ai projects should be listed as part of the initiative and eventually contacted/consulted at a later time to ensure this initiative is inclusive.
-Should Red Hat desire certain things from the project, this should be clarified in the initiative and resources should be allocated accordingly to ensure the success of the initiative. This may involve the hiring of a minimum of three additional people: An additional Kernel Maintainer dedicated to working on an LTS Kernel version of sorts, a dedicated QA Engineer, and an Ai Systems Engineer that will work on packages and integrations, explore Ai use cases, and collaborate with the broader Ai community to ensure a certain degree of adherence to open source standards.
It may be worthwhile to discuss the technical merits of kmod vs akmod as a separate change proposal for handling the nvidia driver…I must concur that the current implementation can be problematic/extra work for users who expect a plug and play experience in base fedora with nvidia hardware (and expect proper hardware acceleration). MOKs are not ideal for a number of reasons, not least of which is that whenever a bios update is done, there is a high likelihood that you need to go through the key enrollment process again.
We should make sure that it will be of actual benefit for downstream which currently use akmods. (Universal Blue/Origami/others)
