Hi all, new Fedora user here with fresh install on dual boot system (windows partition on seperate hard drive). Trying to make the switch from Windows.
I am unable to get audio output working - the only listed audio output device is ‘dummy audio’. I have tried the remedy steps listed on Making sure you're not a bot! with no success.
It is recognising my USB headphones (ATH-M50xSTS-USB) when running lsusb. I wonder if it is an issue with audio drivers not running?
.

Any support in troubleshooting would be appreciated. Sorry still very new to Linux but keen to learn. It seems to be failing to recognise/load intelhd audio as a soundcard maybe?
I have been able to succesfully use the headphones on an ubuntu install without issue to rule out hardware issue with respect to the headphones.
What does
inxi -A
Give you? We are looking for the driver…
You might need to install inxi

Device-1: Intel Cannon Lake PCH cAVS driver: N/A

Device-3: Realtek ATH-M50xSTS-USB driver: hid-generic,usbhid type: USB

So no drivers, can you look up what drivers are required for ‘Cannon Lake’ and install them?

I have looked and everything I can find is that it is meant to work out of the box and just update the kernel? I am unable to find any relevant drivers in any case.

no wonder the system can’t configure the audio card. The kernel cmdline includes the args snd_intel_dspcfg.dsp_driver=3 , which is the wrong driver for the cAVS audio device. Remove it.
$ modinfo -p snd-intel-dspcfg
dsp_driver:Force the DSP driver for Intel DSP (0=auto, 1=legacy, 2=SST, 3=SOF, 4=AVS) (int)
Then locate the file(s) in /etc/modprobe.d/ where these options are set
!!Modprobe options (Sound related)
!!--------------------------------
snd_hda_intel: dmic_detect=0
snd_hda_intel: power_save=0
snd_intel_dspcfg: dsp_driver=1
and rename these file(s) filename .conf → filename .conf_OFF
and restart the system and test if audio works.
run sudo alsa-info.sh --no-upload and evaluate the dmesg section for errors
!!ALSA/HDA dmesg
!!--------------
lspci -k -s 00:1f.3 will show you which driver is active and also other driver available..
i.e on my system:
$ lspci -k -s 00:1f.3
00:1f.3 Audio device: Intel Corporation 500 Series Chipset Family On-Package High Definition Audio (HD Audio) (rev 20)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device 2090
Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel
Kernel modules: snd_soc_avs, snd_sof_pci_intel_tgl, snd_hda_intel
the driver in use is snd_hda_intel ( that’s the legacy hda ) , But I could override and select snd_soc_avs or snd_sof* ( see the modinfo -p ) output above
my guess, the system probably requires the legacy hda kernel driver.
