Fedora 44 Messed up/locked monitor's resolution and other settings

Can’t the amdgpu graphics be disabled in bios?

right, that could be the case. It was not disabled in the original inxi output though.

Monitor works as it should in nvidia-580xx

None work in any of the AMD’s ports, screens stay black. Tested all possible combos, with the Samsung TV dced + reboot, then just the problematic monitor dced + reboot… I also tested having each one connected to the AMDgpu one by one + reboots.

While booting up with just the Samsung TV connected to the AMDgpu’s HDMI port, the TV tried to detect the device (it showed the animation of “Detecting device…” with a spinning wheel. The cheap monitor doesn’t have anything like that, I couldn’t tell if maybe the AMD tried to detect it too, I imagine yes), but failed. Not sure if that’s normal, if the AMDgpu should not even try that during booting if it’s truly disabled/blacklisted.

Outside that, both reach the login screen just fine if using the Nvidia GPU’s ports, but the problematic monitor is still locked at 640x480.[1]

BIG:
Monitor works right after the rollback to nvidia-580xx. Needed 2 reboots because it booted with the weird lag my PC deals with sometimes, the usual, but I am in it right now, it’s on 4K again, HDR enabled, says “BOE DP-1 Display” instead of “Nvidia DP-1 0x000”…

The session and all the heavy programs are working like normal, the 580xx driver is good, I’ll mark it as the Solution. Maybe a future update will fix my edge case, so it’s all good. Thank you so much, everyone :folded_hands: I was so close to changing my profile pic to one of Yamcha

  1. Might be irrelevant cache/state stuff: I have Brave and Kate pinned in my dock, in that order. Once I reconnected the Samsung TV, they changed to Kwrite and Brave, which is what I had a year ago, and they were smaller. Once I reconfigured the TV to reenable 60Hz and 4K (something I gotta do every time my PC “forgets” the TV for disconnecting it), my pinned apps returned to normal. Not critical or anything, just mentioning it just in case. ↩︎
