Fedora 44 / GNOME 50: Google Online Accounts OAuth callback fails

I ran into an issue when adding a second Google account via Settings → Online Accounts → Google.

The Google login itself worked, but after granting Calendar access, GNOME showed:
“No apps installed that are able to open …”

The relevant component was gnome-online-accounts. The OAuth handler was installed and correctly associated: “org.gnome.OnlineAccounts.OAuth2.desktop”

However, its desktop file contained: “NoDisplay=true”

Removing that flag in a user-local copy fixed the problem.

I used:

mkdir -p ~/.local/share/applications

cp /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.OnlineAccounts.OAuth2.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/

sed -i ‘/^NoDisplay=true$/d’ ~/.local/share/applications/org.gnome.OnlineAccounts.OAuth2.desktop
update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applications

After that:
gio mime x-scheme-handler/com.googleusercontent.apps.44438659992-7kgjeitenc16ssihbtdjbgguch7ju55s

changed from:
“No registered applications
No recommended applications”

to:
“Registered applications:
org.gnome.OnlineAccounts.OAuth2.desktop
Recommended applications:
org.gnome.OnlineAccounts.OAuth2.desktop”

The second Google account could then be added successfully.

Versions:

  • Fedora 44
  • GNOME 50
  • gnome-online-accounts-3.58.1-1.fc44
  • xdg-desktop-portal-1.22.1-1.fc44
  • xdg-desktop-portal-gnome-50.0-1.fc44

I’m posting this in case others encounter the same OAuth callback problem, and to see whether this is a known issue or whether NoDisplay=true needs to be handled differently by the portal.
