I’m not very experienced user, but I’ve never have had distro to offer what looks like laptop bios update before. It’s HP EliteBook 645 G11 with Fedora 43 workstation. Thinking should I install this update or not.
The update in software app shows:
Elitebook 6x5 g11 notebook pc w77 system update
System firmware 1.8.1.0
The description included bug fixes and addressing security vulnerabilities.
The HP Flash and Replicated Setup Utilities for Linux are a free set of utilities which provide the ability to manage BIOS settings and update BIOS firmware on HP supported desktop, workstation and notebook computers.
This should be a reliable and current source. BIOS updates are (too?) often needed with new Linux releases, either to fix bugs and security issues or because Linux devs are removing hardware dependent code in favour of standardized interfaces.
Thank you, I’ll familiarize my self with the tool. There is also option to download and update firmware in HP bios. I haven’t yet used this because the tool warns about storage drive encryption being enabled, but that would be another option.
