Fedora 43 KDE Plasma (RTX 3060 / R5 3600) Crashes on Login Despite Clean Installation (I see a black screen)

I’m using Fedora 43 KDE. I have an RTX 3060 graphics card and an R5 3600 processor. When I log into a KDE Plasma session (I’ve tried both Wayland and X11), the desktop freezes, and only the mouse cursor moves. Switching to TTY is also not possible (this problem has been resolved, but I still see a black screen). I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the KDE packages using DNF, and I backed up and deleted the user configuration files (~/.config/kwinrc, ~/.config/plasmashellrc). The problem persists. When I switched to GNOME, the system works stably, but I can’t use 165Hz there either, and I don’t want to use GNOME anyway.

Please post the output of inxi -Fzxx.

Might be wise to remove whatever “file:///home/halil/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/luisbocanegra.panel.colorizer” is, as it’s spaffing output all over your logs which makes them harder to read. Also, posting logs as preformatted text

Can you confirm if this also happens on another user - a fresh user account you create alongside your main account, with default settings for everything? I ask this because although your title stating “Crashes on Login Despite Clean Installation” I see stuff in the log which is not default, and thus is not from a clean install.

I also see a modeset failure right at the start of this all failing - access denied, if google translate gets it correct.

I took the liberty of editing your first post with the logs and converted the “”" to ``` both at the beginning of the log and at the end. This converted the text to ‘preformatted text’ so it shows as seen on-screen and is more easily readable.

That indicates that the nvidia driver is performing modesetting - I wondered if it was or not due to that test for atomic modeset failing in the logs, with an “access denied” message.

Given that you say you get the same issue from a brand new user could you log in with that new user and post the output of journalctl -b 0 --no-hostname --no-pager | fpaste.

It’ll upload a full journal from the current boot to a pastebin and give you a URL back to post. The actual log will probably be too large to paste here directly.

I was a bit surprised to see references to gnome in your logs, so I went back to your inxi output and I see the following:

I must have written this when I first started this topic, but let me explain it again. I’m normally a KDE user, but when I encountered this problem, I installed GNOME to cope. In the process, I deleted and reinstalled KDE, etc. (You already know.) I want to be able to use KDE.

I see.

Your machine still thinks that the compositor for the desktop is gnome-shell, even when you’re running within KDE. It doesn’t appear that’s a supported configuration, given the issues that you’re experiencing when running with a KDE desktop and a gnome-shell compositor.

It seems there is something from the gnome installation still floating around on your system and its being picked up and even when you’re trying to use KDE…or your KDE installation is missing a package which provides the compositor. Quite what needs to be cleaned up I’ve no idea I’m afraid.
