Fresh install on a HP omen laptop with Nvidia 3070 hybrid graphics. Seems to be getting to nouveau and stopping after removing rhgb quiet. No way to get a prompt, it’s a paperweight. Blacklisting nouveau and it still hangs without a prompt infinitely.
Pretty disheartening I’ve been using Fedora on this machine for years and recommended it heavily. This isn’t a niche setup.

Can you disable the dGPU from bios to get into the OS and then install Nvidia?
After that reenable dGPU
BIOS options are only hybrid or discrete.

Did you install 3rd party Nvidia drivers or updates after the fresh install? Did you try getting a text console ()? Post the output from running inxi -Fzxx as web searchable pre-formatted text. This may help identify a problematic hardware configuration and also warn others with similar hardware of a potential problem.

Which are you using? Did you try the other option?
Single reboot after fresh install, completely vanilla.

Switching to discrete default kernel froze in sddm. Rescue kernel let me in. Updating now.
After update switched back to hybrid graphics and default new kernel got past sddm but black screen instead of desktop. Rescue kernel couldn’t run any applications now and went into tty and that froze after a couple seconds.
I’m reinstalling F42.
I don’t mean to be overly harsh but this is a terrible release and a bad look for the distribution after years of stable releases. Compounded by the fact of Windows 10 EOL. Just my two cents from a long time user and advocate.
I just did the upgrade path to 43 after installing Nvidia drivers and after sitting at 100% for the better part of an hour with no feedback I restarted with control alt del. Can’t start application launcher due to some symbol issue.
Was this tested at all? I’m beginning to think not.

Identical issue here.
Some further information. Clicking on application launcher:
file:///usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.kickoff/contents/ui/main.qml:21:1: Cannot load library /usr/lib64/qt6/qml/org/kde/plasma/private/kicker/libkickerplugin.so: /lib64/libKF6Runner.so.6: undefined symbol: _ZN14KWaylandExtras18xdgActivationTokenEP7QWindowRK7QString
The install got stuck after 100% because dnf5-upgrade-transaction.service failed. Unfotunately:
sudo journalctl -u dnf5-upgrade-transaction
-- No entries --

According to this user, sudo dnf downgrade kf6-krunner and rebooting will fix the application launcher issue for now.
You may need to downgrade kf6-krunner and login/reboot again.
If you can open a console (Win+Esc > Tools > Launch Konsole):
sudo dnf downgrade kf6-krunner
I had the same issue and that fixed it for me, though it’s just a temporary workaround.

Just came to post the same thing. Yes, fortunately this worked in the meantime. Thanks!

Garrett:

Testing is mostly up to the user community. I have several systems running Fedora, and install the 43 beta release on the oldest because it is reaching the age at which few similar systems still work. Upgrades on all my systems have gone smoothly.
Wake from sleep problems often involve power management which requires that vendor firmware and linux work together and often has issues when new kernels are released.
From: https://docs.kernel.org/admin-guide/thunderbolt.html :
Typically PCs come with a firmware connection manager for Thunderbolt 3 and early USB4 capable systems. Apple systems on the other hand use software connection manager and the later USB4 compliant devices follow the suit.
Have you tried HP Support?

The broken KDE application launcher issue (about which the testing question was asked) is a Fedora packaging issue, nothing to do with HP or firmware.

Oops, got confused about which thread I was responding to.
Still can’t boot, still can’t get to a tty. Farthest I can get is a screen with a single underscore when I remove the rhgb quiet and then press enter during boot so it actually prompts me for my luks password. Can’t ssh but it pings.
