I have a previous Fedora 41 KDE install on the same hardware, no issues during install or use for past 2 years.
But on a liveimage install with the new Fedora 42 KDE edition, it will only use basic graphics.
Any attempt to switch it later, get black screened.
I tried Fedora 42 (Gnome) advanvced graphics works fine, recognizes amgpu.
System has AMD integrated graphics, so it “should” use amdgpu, but Fedora 42 KDE won’t.
I reloaded an OpenSuse KDE , it’s working and my other install on SAME system Fedora 41 KDE still works.
So something is wrong with the Fedora 42 KDE , perhaps related to Wayland but it would not detect amd integrated graphics.
If you GPU is old and kts driver does not support Wayland that may explain why.
What is your GPU?
What is a a kts driver?

I see that it’s a 5 year old AMD GPU. It is supported and reported work on recent Fedora releases.
From inxi I see that the GPU is detected and using wsrast being used.
That will be why its basic graphics.
When you install OpenSuse KDE what version of KDE was being used?
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20250422
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0
Qt Version: 6.9.0
Kernel Version: 6.14.2-1-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 4700G with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 15.0 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics
Manufacturer: HP
Product Name: HP Desktop M01-F1xxx
Keep in mind that Fedora Gnome install works fine.
I think its worth reporting as a bug in the Fedora bug tracker.
I see your point, OpenGL (EGL) certainly has a problem
_amdgpu_device_initialize: amdgpu_query_info(ACCEL_WORKING) failed (-13)
OpenGLX works
Vulkan works
Yep apparently other KDE users have experienced this issue too while gnome works fine
What I don’t know is this, is OpenGL failing and Gnome isn’t affected? Seems it points to something in Wayland but then only Wayland and Fedora.
Well I was trying to figure what package to pick on Fedora Bug Tracker and I settled on
libwayland-egl
As soon as I did, this issue is both 1 and 2 in the list so someone is on it..
FYI The default is for gnome to use wayland.
My Fedora 42 kde is also defaulting to wayland but this is with Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q with Intel UHD Graphics 630
Perhaps it’s different behaviour with amdgpu
My kde on amdgpu is wayland.
