Fedora 42 KDE Japanese input + on screen keyboard

So I’m using a folding laptop running Fedora 42 KDE, and I am going around in circles trying to setup japanese input (mocz) while keeping the on screen keyboard functionality intact.

The way I see people adding japanese input is by switching over the “virtual keyboard” option to fcitx, as discussed here:

Unfortunately, while this enables japanese input, it completely kills the on screen keyboard when in tablet mode, as that only works with maliit selected. This is quite the annoyance for a bunch of different situations, e.g., when the computer goes to sleep in tablet mode and I have to fold it back into normal mode to use the keyboard to input my password and fold it back again into tablet mode.

Am I missing something obvious here? Or does Fedora (or KDE?) just simply not support both things at the same time?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Good question. I have no idea

It might be better to ask over at the KDE forums, they are lovely people too.
