Fedora 41 getting 1/10th of the internet speed

I’m very new to Linux as a whole, just abandoned windows to get some kind of control over my personal data… Anyway, I have an issue with the internet speed and I don’t even know where to begin fixing it. I have 500mbps internet speed but I’ll be lucky if I break 30mbps. I’m connected with Ethernet directly to the modem.

How are you measuring the speed?

I’m measuring the internet speed in my modems app, and measuring the computer speed on fast.com

Try with another speed test web site to be sure it is not an issue with how fast.com implements its test.

Do you notice the slow down in other apps?

With my 200Mbps connection I get 1.2 Mbps on fast.com.
On speedtest.net I get 200Mbps download and 240 upload.
In other words fast.com doesn’t know what it’s doing.

Okay, I ran the speed test on speedtest.net and got slightly faster at 50, but still not the full speed, everything connecting to the internet is slow.

It may be a problem with your ISP’s network.

Are using Wifi or wired connection?
If Wifi then might be an issue with your Wifi connection.

Also do check sudo dmesg for errors from the kernel about the network.
