Fedora 41 Freezes frequently

I recently upgraded from Fedora 39 to Fedora 41, and have run into many freezing instances. I’ve been able to reproduce some of the steps that can cause Fedora 41 to freeze:

  1. Typing ‘inxi -Fzxx’ on terminal and pressing Enter shows me system information, and immediately causes a freeze. The Caps Lock light is working, no mouse movement, mouse clicks are unresponsive.
  2. Trying to open a .xlsx file using ‘Open With’ and clicking Onlyoffice causes a freeze. The Caps Lock light is working, mouse movement is responsive, mouse clicks are unresponsive.
  3. Trying to run an .exe visual novel game using Bottles 51.15, runner wine-ge-proton8-26 causes a freeze. The Caps Lock light is working, mouse movement is unresponsive, mouse clicks are unresponsive.
  4. Trying to open Krita 5.2.3 using ‘Launch using Discrete Graphics Card’ results in a freeze. The Caps Lock light is working, mouse movement is unresponsive, mouse clicks are unresponsive.

I have NVIDIA as my dGPU, and RPMFusion says my laptop is an Optimus.

Here is my system information:

I have tried these methods:
I have not found a reason as to why inxi -Fzxx can freeze Fedora 41.
Third Party Modules not rebuilt (NVIDIA)
Latest Gnome Apps Not Working in Fedora 41 Using Wayland (specifically post 6, about GSK_renderer=ngl and GSK_renderer=gl, tried both)
Error In my DNF Update
I have tried RPMFusion’s https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA, both the free and nonfree versions.

What steps should I take to resolve this freezing issue?

Strange. Are you sure all has been updated? What about mesa?
Seems you are using Intel vga, not nvidia.

I’ve taken the steps listed here from Fedora Docs, everything should be up to date.

Can you check if inxi -Fzxx | cat is also causing a freeze? If not, please post its output.

Please also post the output of dnf list --installed "*nvidia*".

Yes, inxi -Fzxx | cat also causes a freeze. Caps Lock light is working, mouse movement unresponsive, mouse clicks unresponsive.
I did take note that the last line of the terminal returned a EGL needs more info and after that was the freeze.

According to the output provided, you obviously have no Nvidia drivers installed. You should try installing the drivers from RPM Fusion, according to their HowTo. Take special attention to the part which indicates to wait for the kernel modules to get built (some 5 minutes), before restarting the system.

Once rebooted, verify if the crashes are gone, and post again the output of dnf list --installed "*nvidia*"[1].

  1. With dnf5, it should be dnf list --installed, instead of dnf list installed, as suggested in my earlier post. ↩︎

It worked! Thank you Mike for your help!

All the freezes are no longer occuring, this has solved my worries!

There is a minor problem that doesn’t include freezes though… The .exe game I tried to run (Point 3. on the my original post), it shows me this error:

This happens even when I launch bottles 51.15 with dGPU. Bottles itself doesn’t have any problem with launching and doesnt crash, it’s the .exe game I tried to run that shows me this error.

Happy to hear it worked.

That could have a different cause. I think you have higher chances to getting a response if you open a separate topic for that particular issue.
