I’m a long time user of Fedora, and I had been running Fedora 40 on my home computer yesterday. Today, I installed Fedora 41, but I preserved by “/home” partition.
I ran into 2 serious problems:
(1) After the initial install, (and the first reboot), it asked me to give a username, and I did. It then closed all windows and provided no way to run programs. The background was still visible, and the top bar was still there. I could click the power icon, but the only power option was “suspend”. There was no option for reboot or shutdown.
(2) After a hard reboot, when I try to log in using a existing user on the GUI, it accepts the password, then pauses for 2 seconds, then goes back to the login screen.
I can go to a text console using Ctrl+Alt+2 and log in there using the same credentials just fine.
I created a completely new user, and logged in using that new user “test” on the GUI also just fine. But I just can’t log in using the existing user “rolf”.
Does anyone have suggestions on how I can figure out what’s going on to allow login of the existing user “rolf”?
