Fedora 40 sound not working and display brightness slider is missing

Recently the sound on this Fedora 40 laptop has stopped working, and the display brightness slider in Gnome is gone. This Fedora 40 is an upgrade of Fedora 39. Immediately after the upgrade the sound and the brightness sliders were working OK. I think a recent update might have broken these.

The following issues are similar but do not provide me with any fix:

Note that booting from a Fedora 40 Live USB shows that sound works OK and the display brightness slider is there.

Please rule out potential issues with Gnome extensions or other user settings by creating a new user login and checking to see if the problem appears.

I found the issue, however I still wonder what “the correct solution” is.

Within the past 2 weeks I’d added the following Kernel CMDLINE entries (file:/etc/default/grub setting:GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX) while working around issues with Lutris and trying to get a specific Windows game to work on this laptop:

modprobe.blacklist=i915 acpi_backlight=nvidia_wmi_ec

After removing those 2 entries, regenerating my grub.cfg, and rebooting, the sound and the display brightness slider are both working again.

I guess I will have to find a different solution to my Lutris issue.
