Fedora 40 => Fedora 41, Can't open/view Bitmap images anymore

Hi there.
So today I upgraded from Fedora 40 to Fedora 41.
Everything seems to have gone well except that now I can’t open/view bitmap (.bmp) images anymore with Eye of Mate or Shotwell Viewer. I just get the unknown file type error. It used to works just fine with Fedora 40.

Anyone any idea what could have happened and how to fix this?

I have installed Shotwell to test and i can’t open BMP with that either. The default Gnome image viewer (Loupe) works fine however.

I can’t tell you much more than that unfortunately.

As extra note/information.
I also had a bmp image set as wallpaper which worked fine with Fedora 40, now after updating to Fedora 41 it won’t load anymore and just get a solid color background.

I have a vague recollection that there is a problem with .bmp file support that has lead to it being dropped by some programs. But I am far from sure I recall this correctly.

I think you will need to install gdk-pixbuf2-modules-extra for these older applications to support the other file types.
