So far things are working better than with the RPMfusion repo for me so I will just leave my system operating as it is. It’s been my experience with other repos that the packaged drivers have had more issues. I am not saying you are incorrect here but at the moment for me things are working and they were not with the RPMfusion packages for me. Working except for the qv4l2 app which i used daily before the most resent kernel update 5.9.10-200.fc33.x86_64 #1 SMP.
This is well known , there is just a need for a maintainer to volunteer (someone with packaging skill and hardware covered by the 390xx driver).
You just need to publish patched driver, one can start with: rfpkg clone nonfree/nvidia-390xx-kmod
See also: 5840 – nvidia-390xx-kmod doesn't build on kernel 5.9
Don’t worry . I’d say that if it works, just keep going with it.
Seems like a maintainer took over the 390xx maintenance. So an updated kmod will land in rpmfusion updates soon for compatibility with 5.9 kernel.
As a reminder, the 5.10 kernel will be a long term kernel, so I will likely maintain a dedicated 5.10 branch in my copr (same with older 5.4 https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/kwizart/kernel-longterm-5.4/ )
Users of nvidia legacy driver are likely to use it to avoid major compatibility issue for the future.
Please remind that it is un-sponsored work, so contribution are welcomed to have it maintained for the long run…
Thanks for the update @kwizart.
