Can you run journalctl -u com.system76.PowerDaemon.service -b and show that?

I would also check dnf list installed | grep system76

if it returns that it’s not installed, you can run dnf install system76-power if it is then I’d check if you’re conflicting with any other power manager as I assume this is a laptop. I’d run

system76-power status
systemctl status upower
systemctl status power-profiles-daemon

journalctl -u com.system76.PowerDaemon.service -b

There is your issue: System76 Power Daemon is trying to register the D-Bus service name org.freedesktop.UPower.PowerProfiles. So you have 2 options you can do. one is to Identify which one is using the bus name so run

systemctl status upower
systemctl status power-profiles-daemon

then just stop the service and disable the one that is conflicting with the other by doing

systemctl stop upower
systemctl disable upower

or

systemctl stop power-profiles-daemon
systemctl disable power-profiles-daemon

The other option is more drastic, but let me know if you want that one. I just recommend this one, as you can always reenable it if needs be.

edit,

also since fedora is a non system76 you should just be able to disable it by doing

systemctl disable com.system76.PowerDaemon.service

system76-power does not seem to be installed, but when I try to install i get this message: The requested operation requires superuser privileges. Please log in as a user with elevated rights, or use the “–assumeno” or “–downloadonly” options to run the command without modifying the system state

its not needed if you are running Fedora, as fedora has its own power management, so i would just disable it, like my edit says in the last post, and that should take care of the issue.

power deamon for system76 is was already disabled, I belive it needs to be enabled to control the backlight of my keyboard. And I can’t enable it, I get a error:

sudo systemctl enable --now com.system76.PowerDaemon.service
Job for com.system76.PowerDaemon.service failed because the control process exited with error code.
See “systemctl status com.system76.PowerDaemon.service” and “journalctl -xeu com.system76.PowerDaemon.service” for details.

First i would check if your keyboard is able to be controlled; without it i would run

ls /sys/class/leds/

then if it does exist, it should show your keyboard in there and i would run

# run this and see if this is the file structure
cat /sys/class/leds/"WhateverValueITShows"/brightness
# then change it with it will make it 50% or you could change it to echo 100 for 100% brightness
echo 50 | sudo tee /sys/class/leds/"WhateverValueITShows"/brightness

So if that all works up above i would just remove system76-power by:

sudo dnf remove system76-power

# check if it is gone

systemctl status com.system76.PowerDaemon.service

# if you need a more advanced way of changing your brightness on your keyboard i would download

dnf install libinput

If you are new to linux as i think you are based off the response from above, you need to induce a admin to download system76. Use sudo to run as admin; just be careful, as this allows you to do anything and anything installed with this is system-wide and has all root privileges.

This is the output Iget when I run the command,

ls /sys/class/leds/
igc-08400-led0 igc-0d700-led0 input18::capslock input4::capslock mmc0::
igc-08400-led1 igc-0d700-led1 input18::numlock input4::numlock phy0-led
igc-08400-led2 igc-0d700-led2 input18::scrolllock input4::scrolllock system76::kbd_backlight

and it will probably be a 0 for off to 3 being high cat /sys/class/leds/system76::kbd_backlight/brightness

just tried not not fix the issue.

Everytime there is a kernel update all system76-dkms packages must be reinstalled. As advided by system76 support I would run these commands and It would fix the issue:

This command removes and then immediately installs the packages

This ensures the DKMS hooks run correctly.

sudo dnf reinstall system76-dkms system76-io-dkms system76-power system76-driver

Enable and start the power daemon service

sudo systemctl enable --now com.system76.PowerDaemon.service

Check the status (should show ‘active (running)’)

sudo systemctl status com.system76.PowerDaemon.service

sudo reboot

But on last kernel update did not work and I get this error:

sudo systemctl status com.system76.PowerDaemon.service

After i found that Szydell the fedora system76 repository mantainer suggestes these instaed and says that if you reinstall it would break the system:

DKMS Packages after Fedora Upgrade

After a Fedora version upgrade, all system76-dkms packages must be reinstalled:

sudo dnf remove system76*dkms
sudo dnf install system76-dkms system76-io-dkms system76-acpi-dkms

Important: Do not use dnf reinstall as it will break the installation.

output is 255
