Dual Boot with Windows 11
Has happened in the past - I tried reinstalling. This has just happened again after the second reinstall of Fedora 40.
My guess is that you have disk listed in your /etc/fstab that are not part of the system anymore. Do you have an external disk that you somethings plug into the system?
I see that you can login at the Ctrl-D prompt.
What is in /etc/fstab? Please share its contents.
Are all the disks listed available on the system?
You can use the lsblk -f
command to check what the system knows about.
I would not think that dual boot is involved in the issue.
I’ve seen this also happen when a LUKS partition is there in /etc/fstab/
, but for some reason not in /etc/crypttab
anymore.
The post mentions about a second F40 reinstall. Does this issue occur right after reinstall, or did you manage to use the system afterwards for a while?
This has occurred a little while afterwards. Previously I thought it might have to do with running updates in F40, so I purposely did not run updates this time and it occurred anyway.
With Windows I frequently make use of external HDs. With Linux, only USB drives.
I am a Linux beginner, but assuming I can get past LUKS login at all (for previous reinstalls I had to just delete the Linux partition from Windows) and start again, I will try to provide the info you require.
It may also be worth mentioning that almost without exception I have had to enter my LUKS password at least twice each time I have logged in. I don’t believe this can be attributed to error in each case.
