Sorry if this sounds silly to ask but I have no clue regarding PC hardware.
A friend has a PC he has offered me for free. I am using a Dell Laptop at the moment and thinking of moving to desktop if I grab it off him.
The spec info he gave me is below, just wondered if there is any reason it won’t suit Fedora?
CPU: Intel(R) Core™ i5-9600K CPU @ 3.70GHz, Socket 1151 LGA Motherboard: ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO, 2 x Corsair 16GB 1333 MHz memory sticks, Nvidia GTX 1660, 4 TB HDD & 120 GB SSD, 1000 W PSU
PS Just for comparison my current machine (laptop) is:
Unless someone browsing this forum happens to have the same model computer, you’ll probably have to rely on the reports on linux-hardware.org.
The above report shows some potential problems with WiFi, Bluetooth, and the NVMe SSD Controller, among other things. But if you don’t need those components, it might be fine for your purposes. Click on the orange exclamation marks for further details.
Other than the comments by Gregory above, the specs seem very reasonable and should work well.
I have seen fedora running on much lower spec systems with absolutely no issues.
the only thing I would suggest very strongly is that you should install the nvidia drivers and steam from rpmfusion (since your subject title indicates gaming)
Thanks. but no, i don’t do any gaming. It was just described to me as a ‘gaming PC’, hence my wondering if it suited Fedora. I know nothing about ‘gaming’
Thanks. I don’t know much about this stuff. So I need to install someything to get the video card to work?
The machine does actually have 4 video outputs. 3 DisplayPort and 1 HDMI. I will want to use 3 screens with it if possible (not for gaming though)
