Do I need to update Mac OS for some reasons?

Hi all,

As I daily use Fedora Asahi Remix on my iMac M1 for a couple of years, my Mac OS isn’t up to date at all.

Actually, I haven’t booted it for more than a year.

I wonder wether I need to update it for some reasons I ignore (security, firmware…) and why.

I don’t think so. If something new related to firmware happens that you do need updates for, I’m pretty sure the Asahi team will announce it here or through their other channels.

There might be some useful firmware updates. Some nasty problems with one of my USB ports have become less severe after updating my severely outdated Mac OS. Although I would not rush with major version upgrades because those might introduce new problems sometimes.

In my experience, Apple updates break old functionality and slow systems down.
