at rescue login as root. collected the log of sudo dnf update at may24 13:23

Where does the system get stuck?
Try booting after removing rhgb and quiet frim tge grub kernel line.

Please see youtube below thanks

The video is almost impossible to read on my laptop, but there does seem to be a crash. You should be able to recover the details in much more readable text using journalctl in a terminal. Text has the advantage that others with similar hardware and issues can find your topic with a web search. Linux Handbook journalctl Command can help you get started.

If you have an Live USB installer you can boot that and use journalctl in a terminal with the -D option to view journal records on the system drive.

When reporting problems, you should try to provide enough detail to allow others to reproduce the problem. You can get hardware and some software details by running inxi -Fzxx (in a Live USB environment you will have to install inxi and it will be lost at reboot) and posting the output as pre-formatted text (use the </> button from the top line of the text entry panel).

From picture _224157 seems that sddm_greeter_qt hangs.
Try to disable and reboot.

login recovery root and disable sddm

reboot then able to login my latest kernel.
get only text display no gui

checked sddm service, uname -a, sudo dnf update says no update

appreciate further advice … tks

my previous neofetch … hardware same
I am now on F42 lxqt … mostly updated except today incident

Text display allows you to use journalctl to get details of the crash.

enclosing journalctl where sddm greeter crash… appreciate advice … tks

Try to uninstall and then reinstall sddm or install gdm or install gdm

sudo dnf install gdm (or another display manager)
    sudo systemctl enable gdm.service
    reboot

thanks. tried gdm but boot to “a problem has occured and system cant recover. please contact a system admin”

journalctl -b --priority err

am i far away from reinstall? thanks.

Have you tried to reinstall sddm before using sudo dnf reinstall sddm?
Have you disabled/removed sddm before installing gdm?

ACPI BIOS Error (bug): AE_AML_PACKAGE_LIMIT, indicates a problem between the kernel and the ACPI BIOS there an update for your BIOS?

Try to disable the ACPI with acpi=off on the boot parameters

You have a USB like a key or an external disk connected to the PC? Try to disconnect it

You should be able to boot a Live Installer USB and use, e.g., Gnome Disks, to check drive health. I would make backing up important data a priority.

thanks George. sad to find out that not many things of mine is important …
