Discover reports updates, but is stuck at fetching updates

My bad, OP, and my apologies to you as well as Jeff V for sounding so offensive. I truly had a very bad experience and just within mere minutes had finally given up on at least the, you wouldn’t believe me, less just say, too many AI agents. The last one was satisfied to tell me that since I had run the dnf update that my system was good and needn’t worry about the “ghost” any longer! AI said it was just the GUI of Discovery all confused with a repository in dissarray and I was fine now, that my system was not broke anymore. This has been going on for a couple weeks and I was almost at my wits end! I finally narrowed things down to having only 7 updates instead of 354 that would not run. AI said I was good and congratulated me for figuring things out. I was furious with the ignorance and went in search for some of “my peoples”. Your post came right up first. It was a solution I asked about and AI gave ne “sound” reasons NOT to do that! I knew better and seing your post I didn’t hesitate. Voila! Instantly, all my troubles vanished and I was good to go! I was si grateful and I wanted to find the place to let you know and as I scrolled O came across Jeff’s post which used a few of the same exact words I had just heard, framed a little different. My reply may not seem as such but it truly was my way of saying DO NOT GIVE UP! You would be as foolish as the “super” intelligence of an “artificial” brain! I did not mean to jab at anyone. In fact, you have made an even worse mistake than I did and so I’m feeling pretty good about it all, thank you, “Mr. OP”! I do have a name, Morris, I am a real person, not “artificial”, and I am 70 years old, not 19! If that is not enough to clue you in, let’s try this. I had a major truck roll-over a little over a year ago that left me trapped hanging upside-down for almost half an hour before anyone stopped in the cold dark of the midnight hour to see if anyone was in the huge loaded truck off in the field, and so I thank God for the probably close to 19 year old young man that did stop on his second trip back through and helped free me. I suffered a TBI, which if you don’t know is a “traumatic brain injury” and I am still recovering by the grace of God back to messin’ with kray kray AI agents online while I try to set up my platform form working with LLMs. My “circadian rythym”, my sleep cycle was screwed all to **** and I haven’t slept for over 48 hrs. I have short term memory challenges and I never know what day of the week it might be. I hope I have worn you out with this. lol My goal is to say, sometimes there is more to a story than you might imagine, but I take no medications, drink no alcohol, smoke no weed, don’t curse, swear, smoke, steal, or lie … anymore. And now, I will work on NOT offending or speaking for other people. Take care my brother. We’re all in this mess together, and if you don’t know what mess I’m talkin’ bout, don’ worry, I got yore back!

I understand your situation and hope the health conditions improve.

Please think about what you are saying before you click reply and try to understand what your words may mean to readers.

Just as a bit to think about.
Every LLM that you might ask questions has filled their library from what can be gleaned from the internet, whether it is accurate or not. They tend to regurgitate that info, often out of date or fully invalid, whenever asked.

Sometimes their answer may be correct and sometimes not.

For now, at this stage of AI development, do not rely 100% on the AI answers you may receive. Locations like this forum have real live users that can provide answers, mostly accurate, and can work with you to identify and solve problems.

No problem, well, sometimes my thinker gives me a little problem, but I’ll work on it best I can, if I can “remember” to. lol This is truly the craziest thing and I’m not making excuses. I’m responding because of your show of concern to (the poor ole man-lol). No, seriously, I would love to know how old you are, not really. But, chances are you will not get what I’m going to share with you and I wouldn’t expect anyone to really get it, but you will soon. Speaking of AI, IAssure you, don’t worry about me. I’m not at liberty quite yet to share the details with everyone but I know much more about AI than you would ever imagine. That’s not a boast either. In fact I shared something of this with an AI agent, Groq, to be open with you about it, just in recent months. It was something that happened to me way back in the 70s, before you were even born I am reasonably certain. Anyway, it was all about AI, and there are still many living witnesses and in fact a couple of businesses that can back my story. Anyway, I shared just a little of this with Groq and as an AI, he didn’t judge me, but he did make it clear that he doubted very much my story, saying things like, as far as he knew, AI was not even discovered or a part of discussions back at the time I was referencing to. I knew better! So, I immediately went online to find supporting evidence for at least that. It was almost impossible to search out anything on the subjects I was looking for but I finally started finding some evidences which I gathered and later shared with Groq. He was admittedly intrigued that he was unaware of such. It turns out that the suggestion of AI was first made the year I was born in 1956 and it was shortly after that the word AI was coined, I think '64 maybe. My memory…anyway Alan Turing did tests, and I think it was McCartney that actually coined the term AI and there was even a convention or fair or something like that where the whole thing was “kicked off”, you might say. I grew up in a very technological town that few realize for what it is and I was in electronic manufacturing for many years, even at that time. Anyway, within days after sharing this with Groq all of a sudden YouTube and many other venues have many discussions on the birth of AI, Alan Turing, McCartney, and the same as we discussed. You may smile at all of this right now and find it boringly entertaining but if you knew the evidence I hold, how it came to be, what it means, and what it holds for our future you would be totally gobsmacked! And I have been living with this for over half a century and it will be a huge matter for everyone when they understand it all. So, don’t worry for me, and don’t fear, but be sober and and build good relationships, with real people, not AI. Take care.

already installed 6.7.2 via discovery, all going well so far

If you don’t use “snapd”, then uninstalling it should prevent the issue from re-occurring. Mine got installed with the initial clean installation of FD43 KDE, despite that I have nothing that needs snapd. Still, it is KDE Discover that has a problem with it as dnf works no matter what.

omg. it worked for me. thx thomas. you saved me.

i just got kernel 7.1.3, all working as expected, seems to be fixed i think

i will avoid snap from now on, it didnt worked for me and then it brought problems, flatpak seems to me the way to go, less problems, just works

Signed up to say thanks!
I’d been using sudo dnf upgrade ever since running into this issue, but ProtonUp-QT wasn’t getting updated so needed to resolve the issue and removing snap did it (as the solution states).
Thanks again!

a question, is everybody’s discover running slow?

slow to look for updates or failing to report all updates or the size of files to be downloaded?

it seems to need to be pressed the refresh button a couple times now, not a big deal, but i noticed that

Never use it. Update and install everything from the command line.

Steve

not appreciated such comment, nor even as joking, very disrespectful to say that after such a long thread being read by so many people

I replied from email - I had no idea which thread you were posting in. Regardless, I answered your question - “no Discover is not slow for me”.

there are better ways to reply and better words to use.

I don’t believe so - you asked a vague question about others experiences, and I answered with mine. I fail to see how I could have been any more accurate.

Regardless, this thread is solved, and any further questions about Discover should be posed in a new thread.

TTFN.
