Hi there. I’ve been running Fedora 44 Plasma for a few months, and recently I’ve noticed that Discover’s Updates section always shows the message “Updates will be installed after the system is restarted”, no matter how many times I tell it to restart and install updates. Prior to this, I’ve installed updates many times without issue.
I’ve tried using sudo dnf update --refresh in Konsole, which results in “Nothing to do”. Using sudo flatpak update also results in “Nothing to update”.
Having searched on this forum for similar issues, I tried removing plasma-discover-snap, which didn’t help. The only unusual thing I’ve done to the system is that I installed DMS with Niri, but this all happens when logged into a regular Plasma desktop session too.
Being an amateur with Linux, I’m not sure how to troubleshoot this, and I’d be very grateful for any pointers. I’ve copied some system info below, in case it’s helpful. Thank you for reading.

I remember applying a firmware update a couple of months ago, and it was just via the Discover interface. How can I kick that off via the terminal instead? Some quick research suggests fwupdmgr perhaps?
## Basic usage flow (command line)
If you have a device with firmware supported by fwupd, this is how you can check
for updates and apply them using fwupd's command line tools.
`# fwupdmgr get-devices`
This will display all devices detected by fwupd.
`# fwupdmgr refresh`
This will download the latest metadata from LVFS.
`# fwupdmgr get-updates`
If updates are available for any devices on the system, they'll be displayed.
`# fwupdmgr update`
This will download and apply all updates for your system.
- Updates that can be applied live will be done immediately.
- Updates that run at boot-up will be staged for the next reboot.
You can find more information about the update workflow in the end
users section of the [fwupd website](https://fwupd.org).
Thanks for that. I refreshed and updated the firmware list via fwupdmgr, installed available firmware updates, re-ran dnf, and now Discover seems to be back to normal, showing an Up To Date status at last!
My wild guess is that Discover was running fwupdmgr in the background and stalling on the not-yet-installed status of those firmware updates, without showing me anything in the UI to clarify that. Maybe I’ll just update everything on the command line henceforth.
