DevConf.IN is an annual free and open source software developers’ conference organised by Red Hat Private Limited India. It aims to bring together free and open source software enthusiasts, developers, sysadmins, contributors and technologists for talks, workshops, panel discussions, hackathons and other activities. This time around, the conference covers a broad range of topics, including cloud & platform technologies, AI & data science, emerging technologies, cyber security, UX/design engineering and a general “open track” for community / open-source oriented talks. All sessions default to English and the event emphasises an inclusive, respectful community environment, including a code of conduct.
If you contribute to the Fedora Project and want to participate in this free and open source software conference, I am glad to note that the event is free to attend for all registered individuals. We encourage you to list your name in the DevConf.IN 2026 Fedora Project Wiki document. While the Fedora Project budget is quite limited for the event, we will try to sponsor those applying for it on a priority basis, i.e. the likelihood of getting sponsored is high if one actively contributes to the Fedora Project presence of DevConf.IN 2026. Please go ahead and add your proposal request in the Budgetting section of the aforementioned document for the request to be taken into consideration by Fedora Mindshare.
Here’s to kicking off 2026 with sharing and learning at DevConf.IN 2026!
I’ve been contributing to the Fedora Project (mostly to the Fedora-Infra team) for quite some time now, and I’ve recently focused most of my contributions towards the revamp initiative of Fedora Badges.
I’m currently based in Pune and would love to join the conference to help out as much as possible and meet all the FOSS enthusiasts and contributors.
Awesome! Thanks @t0xic0der for kicking this discussion off. I am excited to see DevConf India making a steady but clear return after several years off after COVID-19. We need more regional events like this in the APAC region, and I think it is important for Fedora to be there.
For anyone thinking to go, it will help a lot to get your name added in the Wiki table under Presence header:
When is an ideal deadline for someone to request budget? This should be in the context of when you intend to submit the Fedora Mindshare Committee ticket for funding review and approval. Setting a clear deadline for people to declare their interest in participating will be helpful to give everyone a fair shot at accessing travel sponsorship for Fedora.
Seeing the event is in mid-February, and would likely be classified as a Medium Event, the Mindshare Committee process will take 11 days. Wednesday, 14 January 2026 seems like a good choice for a deadline of rallying a budget. Assuming an on-time submission to Mindshare Committee on that Wednesday, a final decision would be issued by the Committee on Monday, 26 January 2026. This allows approximately 2.5 weeks for approved airfare to be purchased. While this is not a large enough window for international airfare costs, I think it would be workable for domestic travel from inside India.
@mattdm@jnsamyak following up with the Fedora Project wiki page population with the information on the talks and workshops that you might have proposed - If you have any, please fill them in there.
Also, checking in with the likes of @smeragoel, @nekonya3, @thisisyaash, etc. - as this event is happening in India, I think this could be a great opportunity to rekindle the Fedora Project community here.
And the best part of it all? You folks could be at the forefront of this “movement” of ours. Feel free to comment under this discussion post if you folks are interested in helping me out with the booth.
@jflory7, sorry I could not get back to you on the comment, but thanks for relaying the same again during our 1:1 yesterday. I will follow the action items from there to keep the ball rolling on this event.
I’m a Fedora Project contributor and I have been active with the Fedora Infra & Fedora CommOps team for about a year now. I have been mostly contributing to the Fedora Forge and also to the upstream Forgejo.
Most importantly, I’m really curious and excited to helping out with the booth, I was there last time (DevConf.in 2025) but there wasn’t a Fedora booth then and since now we have our own booth there, I’m very much interested to participate, represent Fedora Project and helping you out with the booth
@thisisyaash, glad to have you on board. Yes, we are indeed fortunate enough to have a booth under our name this time around that you can help out with. I will share a Google Sheets document here shortly that will have all the deets about the in-person booth staffing schedule and other logistical activities. Until I do that, please get started with providing an estimate of your transit and accommodation expenditures on the Fedora Project wiki page linked above so that we can also kick off the Fedora Mindshare process for the same.
This is samyak, your regular geeky release engineer. I’ll be helping out in the event booth and have proposed a talk. Let’s see if it gets accepted! IF not, you will have more time with me at the booth and at the conference, see you all there.
