If I have 3 desktops, they are named as Desktop 1, Desktop 2 and Desktop 3. Now if I delete desktop 2, I am left with desktop 1 and desktop 3 instead of desktop 1 and desktop 2. I am on Fedora 44.
That’s because they are named when they are created. The sequential number is just the default - not that "the third desktop is always called “Desktop 3”
If you renamed the first one to “trumpet” and the last to “wibble”, what would you expect them to be called when you deleted “Desktop 2”?
Since I am coming from Windows, I am used to seeing Desktops numbered sequentially, and I don’t tend to name my desktops after workspaces that they represent, that’s why I wanted to know if there was a solution to this
This issue seems to be KDE Plasma specific, e.g. GNOME doesn’t name its workspaces at all. You could consider filing a issue report or an RFE upstream, against KDE Plasma, if not already done by someone else.
Working as intended I’d say.
Possibly, that’s why I also mentioned about RFE. This is personal preference, but I think the UX could be better here, with workspace names automatically renamed in order, especially if they hadn’t been renamed by the user.
