Desktop wakes from sleep, goes back to sleep, wakes again fully

So ive had this issue since installing Fedora on my desktop. It will wake up after like 15 seconds it’ll go back to sleep. I move the mouse and it’ll wake up again, this time stays up.

Specs:
Asus ROG Strix B650E-I, Nvidia RTX 4090
Nvidia proprietary driver:

Package "akmod-nvidia-3:580.95.05-1.fc43.x86_64" is already installed.
Package "xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-cuda-3:580.95.05-1.fc43.x86_64" is already installed.

OS: Fedora release 43, 6.17.1-300.fc43.x86_64, 6.17.1-300.fc43.x86_64

Ive tried adding the following to my grup: usbcore.autosuspend=-1 pci=noaer pcie_aspm=off

I ran a journalctl | grep -iE ‘suspend|resume|sleep|wake’ on my system and below is the output .

Thanks in advance. Just a newb trying to find my way enjoying the journey.

There is an update waiting for you that will install kernel 6.17.2 as well as updating several other things. sudo dnf upgrade in a terminal will get that for you.

While I can not confirm this will fix the wake - sleep - wake problem, it will upgrade your system to the latest for all the software that is in the f43 Beta pending final release.

I’ll look out for that. Thank you for taking time reply. :victory_hand:

This seems to be the wake-up event triggered by ModemManager or NetworkManager…

You have to run dnf upgrade with updates-testing repo enabled to receive updates.

sudo dnf update --enablerepo=updates-testing

I will do this today. Thank you! Have a nice weekend.

Ran the update restarted and interestingly it slept a 2nd time before staying up…
Might dig through BIOS and start changing c-states for my CPU.

I just disabled Nvidia sleep/suspend to see if the behavior is different. The errors on the log point to AMD USB chipset but I just want to rule that out.

sudo systemctl disable nvidia-suspend.service nvidia-resume.service
sudo systemctl mask nvidia-hibernate.service

Hi,

I’ve stumbled upon the exact same issue : sleeping, then waking up, then sleeping again after 30 seconds. It happens regardless i unlock from lockscreen or not.

I have noticed something that could be a clue : It seems that the first time the computer sleeps, it enters a non-deep sleep state (screens off only), then after waking, it sleeps again but enters a deeper one (my power button on my desktop chassis is blinking, and I hear a poweroff click inside)

It is quite annoying bug as I have absolutely changed nothing on my bios side. As it seems to enter sleep mode every time my display turn off. in my systemctl log i’ve got something out of nothing after this delay :

A workaround for me was to use caffeine and disable sleeping. but it’s not viable in the long run.

Hope that helps

So I was using gnome and just for fun I wanted to try KDE Plasma to see how I would like it and installing KDE Plasma, and doing nothing else, fixed my sleep/wake issue. Side note, im enjoying KDE very much.

Is there a solution instead of moving to KDE?

I went with the solution mentioned here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/-/issues/903#note_2619256
