Desktop turning off during sleep mode

Hi everyone,

I’ve come across an issue since using Fedora, that is my desktop sometimes seems to shutdown by itself when asleep.

Basically, when it has been asleep for a while and I wake it up, my computer acts just as if it was shut down (even though the light was blinking, confirming it was in sleep): grub, sddm and then a new session.

It kinda sucks when I forget to save everything I was doing, expecting the desktop to still be on when I come back.

Is this a known/wanted behaviour ?

Not wanted, but also not unusual. When reporting an issue, you should provide enough details to allow others with similar hardware and software to reproduce the issue.

Power management in Linux has always been problematic – it needs system firmware that doesn’t conflict with linux. Vendors are trying to reduce Linux power demands to levels comparable to Windows as power and cooling (more power for computers ends up requiring more cooling) a big issues for cubicle farms in large enterprises. For Windows, vendors can add their own tweaks to drivers. Linux developers have to work with the system and device firmware vendors provide and not all vendors can be bothered with Linux support.

My desktop is mostly made of MSI components, and I’m also dual booting Windows.

Didn’t have the problem on my former distro, only started when I switched to Fedora, so it probably isn’t a vendor related problem.

Can you download Logs app from flathub and see if there’s anything about it?
